From 30 July, residents of Kuldīga and visitors to the town can enjoy the new audio guide, “Kuldīga Speaks” – an invitation to discover Kuldīga’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a leisurely walk while listening to the stories that bring the town to life. The audio guide follows a walking route with ten stops, where Kuldīga’s cultural and historical heritage is revealed through engaging narratives and the voices of local residents.
The audio guide was written by Krista Jansone, while the stories are narrated by Kuldīga residents themselves. The route takes visitors to the Old Town Hall (voiced by Viktors Gotfridsons), the Synagogue Building Complex (Daina Girvaite), Alekšupīte Stream (Arts Šimpermanis), St. Catherine’s Church (Ruta Karloviča), the Old Brick Bridge (Klāvs Šlakorcins), the Ventas Rumba Waterfall (Kristīne Šimpermane), the Stafenhagen House (Gita and Arts Rozīši), the former Kuldīga Branch of the Bank of Latvia (Eduards Dambergs), the Castle Guard’s House (Arts Gustovskis), and the “Three Sisters” houses on Liepāja Street (Ance Reķe, Inese Afanasjeva and Jana Bergmane).
Each of the ten stops is marked with an information panel featuring a short introduction and QR codes. By scanning the codes, visitors can listen to the audio guide in Latvian or English, learn more about each site, and discover the story of Kuldīga’s UNESCO World Heritage status. The information panels are located at the Old Town Hall, the Synagogue Building Complex, Alekšupīte Stream, St. Catherine’s Church, the Old Brick Bridge, the Ventas Rumba Waterfall, the Stafenhagen House, the former Kuldīga Branch of the Bank of Latvia, the Castle Guard’s House, and the “Three Sisters” houses on Liepāja Street.
The audio guide is available free of charge, allowing everyone to explore the route at their own pace and whenever it suits them best. It has been created for both first-time visitors discovering Kuldīga and local residents who wish to see familiar places from a new perspective and hear the stories they have to tell.
