Dižgabalkalns Hill in Alsunga

On the way from the manor to the church, along Pils Street on the shore of Alsunga Dzirnavezers, stands an ancient Curonian hillfort, which is included in the national list of protected cultural monuments. The hillfort received its name in 1659, when Courland’s General Berg stationed cannons here to attack Swedish forces fortified in the manor.

The hillfort rises 8–10 meters and offers a magnificent view of the Alsunga Church and the nearby Dzirnavezers Lake.
