Although the Venta River is the fourth longest river in Latvia, it is less known among water tourists and not as popular as the Abava. Its wide meanders, long straight sections, and generally slow current make it ideal for enjoying the movement of wind over the water.
The exception is the stretch from Nīgrande to Skrunda, which is the most popular canoeing route on the Venta. With a favorable southern wind, the section from Skrunda to Kuldīga is also navigable. Here the river is wide, shallow, and slow, but occasional small currents help carry the boat forward. Shorter and longer routes between Kuldīga and Nabas Lake also provide enjoyable paddling experiences.
The Venta is navigable with all types of boats, and along its banks, you can find both well-equipped facilities and camping spots established by water tourists.
