Kuldīga’s Oldest Bridge

The bridge over the Alekšupīte River on Pasta Street, located next to the oldest wooden building in Courland, is the oldest bridge in Kuldīga, built in the early 17th century.

In 1797, the Alekšupīte could be crossed by seven bridges, six of which are within the area now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (today, the number has grown to ten). Some of these bridges were originally made of wood, but were later replaced with masonry structures. The locations of the bridges within the city have remained unchanged.

Bridges over the Alekšupīte have existed since the time of the Duchy of Courland.
