The Alekšupīte Waterfall was created and reinforced in the 17th century so that the river’s strong current could power the first paper mill in Kurzeme.
Today, the Alekšupīte Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Latvia, standing at 4.15 meters.
A viewing platform has been built near the waterfall, offering a beautiful view of the Alekšupīte Waterfall and the historic brick bridge. In particularly cold winters, a frozen waterfall can sometimes be seen here.
