Laidu Manor – Creative Universe

Laidu Manor was built between 1809 and 1811 as a residence for Johanna von Lambsdorf, daughter of Karl Gothard Ernest von Manteuffel–Scheege, the owner of Kazdanga Manor. The manor complex is considered an exemplary model of manor architecture in the late Berlin Classicism, or Empire style.

In 1920, the manor was liquidated, and from 1922 it housed Laidu Primary School, which operated there until spring 2022. After the school’s closure, the building was transferred to the public benefit organization “Give and Get”, where active representatives of the arts have established the master residence center “Creative Universe”.

“Creative Universe” is a place where visitors and resident artists are encouraged to express their true selves.

Today, Laidu Manor hosts masters from a wide range of disciplines, for stays ranging from two-week residencies to several months of creative experience.

Visitors are welcome to explore the historic building, enjoy exhibitions, reflect while playing chess or relaxing on the terrace, savor coffee or tea, immerse themselves in a creative environment, and – by prior arrangement – stay overnight in the manor.

It is also possible to purchase clay and porcelain tableware created by the manor’s permanent resident, Kristīne.
