Since 1993, when the first beehives were brought to “Baļļas,” owners Ieva and Helmuts Berghold have lovingly and carefully developed the farm into a well-known brand. Over the years, the number of bee colonies has grown to 500 hives, farm buildings have been constructed, their own honey shop opened, an online store established, the product range expanded, a carpentry workshop for wooden beekeeping equipment created, and their products are now available not only in Latvia but throughout Europe.
The honey from Baļļas is collected, processed, packaged, and sold entirely by the owners themselves! With attention, respect for nature, and an unceasing commitment to quality, they offer around seven different varieties of monofloral honey, as well as pollen, bee bread, propolis, and unique honey treats full of health benefits.
Interestingly, to produce just one small jar of honey (450 grams), bees need to gather nectar from approximately 2 million flowers.
The “Baļļas” farm offers visitors the chance to get an inside look at the life of bees and learn fascinating facts about these amazing, busy insects. Guests can taste a variety of bee products and purchase them on-site. Tours are led by knowledgeable guides and include protective gear.
For children’s groups, the farm offers educational tours, fun activities, creative workshops, and a picnic area by the fire (for groups of 12 or more).
For those interested in learning beekeeping, training courses are also available—just sign up!
