Here you will encounter the largest ground squirrels – marmots – cared for by Silvija Tetere, the owner of “Jaunstuči”.
Steppe marmots, also known as “baibaki,” are charming animals that can be described as big sleepers, as they spend the cold winter months hibernating, while in the warm season they actively eat to build up a layer of fat to use during winter. They are also known for their loud whistling.
Visitors of all ages are delighted by the little animals’ antics. To get better acquainted, guests are allowed to treat the marmots with goodies, which can be purchased on-site at the farm.
Marmots can be observed during their active period from May to October, with visits arranged in advance.
