Former grain warehouse building

In Kuldīga, a building from the 18th century has been preserved that was originally used for grain storage, thus reflecting the need for warehouse construction created by the growing trade. The building has two stories and spacious rooms under the roof. The warehouse was built of wood, and its half-hipped roof is covered with tiles. A chimney is located at the center of the roof, and a weather vane is visible. This structure is one of the few whose gable façade faces the street. The building rests on stone foundations, and the entrance doors are located on the eastern façade.

The building has retained its original layout, including a gallery on the second floor. This gallery can be accessed via stairs on the exterior of the building and is now connected to a large terrace serving the Stender’s Bar & Club. The exterior walls have been renovated without altering their original visual appearance. The rear façade of the first floor, as well as certain sections of the second-floor exterior walls, are entirely original. The basement structures have also largely survived from the time of construction.

Although the building’s function has changed over time, it remains an important bearer of the heritage site’s narrative, as it represents the economic growth of the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia.
