Kuldīga Castle Mill
Kuldīga Castle Mill was built on the stone foundations of a 13th-century castle tower. Vaults with bricked-up passages are still visible in the cellars.
The waterfall here has powered the mill wheel since the 15th century. The original mill building has not survived, as it could no longer find a tenant during the Duchy period. The mill disappears from documents for a time until a new building was constructed in 1807. At that time, the first predecessor of the last, now nonexistent, wooden mill wheel was also built—a massive wheel that amazed all who saw it.
The wide, heavy, one-story building features a mezzanine and a mansard roof with slanted ends, appearing almost flush with the ground. The building has a traditional three-part layout with a central barrel chimney, characteristic small-paned windows, and a high mezzanine gable. The ridge of the mezzanine roof aligns with the main roof ridge.
The mill operated in this architectural monument until 1961, after which the premises were converted into a metalworking workshop.
