This 74 km route is best visited in July, when you can experience a truly unique Latvian landscape – blooming lavender fields.
On the border of Kuldīga and Saldus, you will find the “Lillas Lavender” farm, where you can see, smell, and experience the magic of lavender, learn about its cultivation from flowers to finished products, oils, and other souvenirs.
In Saldus, be sure to try the beloved “Saldus gotiņa” candies, stop by the “Saldus Maiznieks” bakery, and enjoy locally made ice cream in Druva.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy sights from the “Road of Technology” monuments – a steam-powered mobile engine, a Soviet-era tractor with a ditch-digging attachment, a tracked tractor and peat-harvesting machine, a tracked cable excavator, and a seed threshing machine.
In Vārme village, you can see the Manor Baron’s Castle, while nature lovers will enjoy the scenery of Omiķi Ravine. The route mostly follows paved roads, with only the sections from Vārme to Šķēde and from Lutriņi to Druva going along small country lanes.
