Hiking Route: “The Skrunda Loop”

An easy and scenic sixteen-kilometer route that allows you to explore Skrunda’s main attractions and enjoy the charming landscapes of Skrunda’s fish ponds and surrounding areas. The route begins in the center of Skrunda, winding past landmarks such as the “River of Time” clock, the Skrunda battle memorial, the Lutheran church, and the deportation wagon museum.

The trail then follows a country road leading to the Skrunda fish ponds, with a view of the Skrunda airfield along the way. The ponds captivate with their wide expanses and a narrow strip of land flanked by open water and dense reeds. During migration, various waterfowl frequent the ponds, making it a rewarding spot for birdwatchers hoping to spot a rare species.

After a short loop through the forest, the route returns to the fish ponds and then continues through the scenic Kurzeme countryside, passing homesteads and expansive fields. Returning to Skrunda, the trail follows the Venta River, featuring a pleasant promenade, the environmental installation “Iegriez Stegu,” and even a Romani sauna. The hike concludes with an external view of the grand Skrunda Manor.

The route is suitable for walkers of all ages and fitness levels who wish to spend a day full of experiences exploring Skrunda and its surroundings.
