Žibgrava Nature Trail
The name of the Žibgrava Nature Trail itself reveals the trail’s main feature—a ravine that in some places reaches a height of up to 15 meters. The 1.5-kilometer trail winds through a hilly forest landscape along the picturesque, winding banks of the Kauliņupe stream. Natural processes can be observed here undisturbed, and the ravine fascinates visitors with its sense of wilderness and biodiversity.
Along the trail you can see unusual old trees, a spring, a small pond, and protected species such as the shiny wood ant, the lichen Arthonia spadicea, and the fungus Polyporus badius. Informational boards placed along the trail provide engaging facts about the plants and animals found here, as well as legends and riddles related to the Suiti dialect, with the answers revealed on the next board along the path.
A particularly beautiful time to walk here is in spring, when blue anemones bloom in the steep ravines.
At the end of the trail there is a rest area accessible to people using wheelchairs. During wet weather, some sections of the trail may be damp or flooded, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Nearby is Alsunga, the historical center of the Suiti cultural region.
