Forest Trail Stage 94: Renda – Sabile
The distance from Renda to Sabile is 25 km.
In Renda, the Forest Trail briefly follows the rocky banks of the Īvande River before leading onto the Kroju Road.
At first, the route passes through open landscapes, but later it continues through forested areas. In several places, there are views over the ancient valley of the Abava River. The scenery gradually changes as the Forest Trail leaves the Pieventa Plain of the Kursa Lowland and gently ascends the Vāne slope of the Eastern Kurzeme Upland, reaching elevations of 50–60 metres above sea level.
Before reaching the village of Valgale, the trail makes a detour around the deep ravine of the Valgale River. It then continues along the upper edge of the Abava Valley’s main bank all the way to Sabile, descending only near the town to reach the Abava Bridge (Lāčplēša Street / Kuldīgas Street).
In the surroundings of Sabile, the landscape changes once again, revealing the rolling hills of the Saldus Hill Country in the Eastern Kurzeme Upland. Between Rumbciems and Sabile, the Abava Valley reaches a depth of approximately 40 metres.
During this stage and the following day, the Forest Trail passes through the Abava Ancient Valley Nature Park.
