Along the banks of the Venta River is Skrunda Hillfort, a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The hillfort features an amphitheater and is surrounded by a park with wooden chairs designed by sculptor Ģirts Burvis, inspired by Curonian chieftains. Legends tell of the hillfort’s underground passages and the White Lady, “Ventas Vārava,” who appears once every hundred years.
A walking trail has been created along the hillfort and the Venta River. The trail includes benches, rest and campfire areas, several observation points to enjoy the scenic landscapes of Kurzeme, and a sensory path. The trail also serves as the starting and ending point for paddlers.
In 2020, a steam bath (“čigānu pirts”) was installed along the trail, freely available to locals and visitors. Visitors need to bring their own firewood and bath brooms. Rules for using the sauna are posted at the entrance, and about 50 meters away there are changing rooms and restroom facilities.
